What Story keeps on your device, what it sends anywhere, and who to write to.
Halfslap Story · Updated 19 October 2026
1. Who we are
Halfslap Story is a browser-based creative application, including a storyboard and a script editor, made available by DOYEP LTD, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 16868030).
Our registered office is Suite C The Quadrant, 99 Parkway Avenue, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England, S9 4WG.
You can contact us about privacy at hello@doyep.co.uk.
This notice covers the Story service at https://story.halfslap.com.
2. Local-first creative projects
Story is designed to keep your work on your device. Scripts, storyboard drawings, layers, scene information, images you import and editor settings are written to your browser’s own indexed database for this site.
Saving does not send anything to us. The application has no account, no sign-in and no sync, and it contains no code that uploads your project content. Equally, we do not hold a copy: there is no cloud backup of locally saved work for us to restore from.
Your browser or device can delete that stored information — when you clear site data, move to another device, run short on space, or when the browser decides to evict it. Export important work and keep your own backups.
3. Information we may handle
Information needed to deliver and secure the website. The hosting infrastructure behind this domain may record technical connection information such as an IP address, browser and device details, the resource requested and timestamps, in order to serve and protect the site.
Messages you send us. If you email us, we handle your email address, what you include and the correspondence needed to reply.
Creative work held in your browser. Material saved only on your device is not transmitted by the application, so it is not routinely accessible to us.
We do not sell personal information or creative work, and the application carries no advertising, no third-party tracking code and no analytics.
4. The on-device AI tool
Smart Convert — the feature that turns a paragraph of rough prose into screenplay elements — runs its model in your browser, on your own machine, using WebGPU. The paragraph you are converting is read on your device and is never sent to an inference service. It re-arranges your own words; it does not write dialogue for you.
The first time you start it on a device, your browser downloads the model files — Qwen2.5-1.5B-Instruct, or the smaller 0.5B model on a device that reports less memory — from huggingface.co, a distribution host operated outside the UK. That download is an ordinary request to a third-party server, so the host sees your IP address and what it serves. Nothing of your writing travels with it. The files are then cached on your device and reused, and the download is repeated only if that cache is cleared.
We do not use your content to train models, because the application never receives it.
5. Why we process information and our lawful bases
| Purpose | UK GDPR lawful basis |
|---|---|
| Delivering and maintaining the website and dealing with technical requests | Legitimate interests in providing a functioning, reliable service |
| Security monitoring, preventing abuse and investigating incidents | Legitimate interests in protecting users and our service |
| Responding to support and privacy enquiries | Legitimate interests in communicating with users and resolving enquiries |
| Complying with applicable legal obligations | Legal obligation |
6. Who else is involved, and transfers
The hosting provider serves this site and may hold the connection data described above. The model files behind Smart Convert are distributed by huggingface.co, which is outside the UK, and is contacted only by the browser of someone who starts that feature. Our email provider handles correspondence sent to the address below.
We may also disclose information where required by law.
7. How long information is kept
Work saved in your browser stays on your device until you delete it, clear site data, or your browser removes it. Because it is local, we cannot recover it for you.
Support emails are kept for as long as reasonably needed to answer the enquiry and deal with any follow-up.
8. Your rights
Depending on the circumstances and the legal basis, you may have rights to access, correct or erase personal information we hold, to restrict or object to processing, and to request portability of certain data.
You may object to processing based on our legitimate interests at any time by writing to hello@doyep.co.uk. We will consider the request under applicable law.
For projects that exist only in your browser, the practical route is local: delete a project from its card in the library, or clear this site’s data in your browser settings. We are unlikely to hold a copy to act on.
You can also raise a concern with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office: ico.org.uk.
9. Browser storage
The technologies this site stores on your device, what each is for and how to clear them are set out in our Cookies & Device Storage notice.
10. Changes and contact
We may update this notice to reflect changes in the application, the law or our practices, and publish it with its revision date.
