Cookies & Device Storage
Exactly what this site puts on your device, why, and how to remove it.
Halfslap Story · Updated 19 October 2026
1. Why the app stores anything
Story is built so you can work without an account. To do that it has to keep your projects somewhere, and the somewhere it chooses is your own device. The result is that opening the site again on the same browser returns you to your work.
Local storage is not a hosted backup. Clearing site data removes your projects and any downloaded model files, and there is no copy on our side to restore.
2. What is stored, and by what
| Technology | What it holds here |
|---|---|
| IndexedDB — database “halfslap-storyboard” | Projects: scenes, drawings, layers, reference images, scripts, editor settings and the library index. Everything you make. |
| Cache Storage | The language model files Smart Convert downloads on first use, so the same gigabytes are not fetched again. |
| Browser HTTP cache | The application’s own files — its scripts, styles and fonts — as any website does. |
| localStorage | Your theme choice, the last workspace view for each project, and dismissed interface hints. |
The application sets no cookies and uses no sessionStorage, and it installs no service worker. There is no analytics script, no error-reporting service and no third-party font or script: everything the page runs is served from this domain.
3. The one request that leaves for something else
Starting Smart Convert for the first time on a device downloads model files from huggingface.co, a distribution host outside the UK. That host sees the usual connection details of the request, including your IP address. It happens only when you start the feature, and it carries none of your writing — inference itself runs entirely on your device.
4. Your choices
Under UK rules, storage does not always need consent: storage that is genuinely necessary to provide the feature you asked for falls within the strictly necessary exception. The storage listed above exists to do the two things the site is for — keep your work and run the tool you start — which is why the site does not open with a consent banner.
Whatever the position, the choice is yours and it is absolute: your browser can delete any or all of it. In Safari, Chrome or Firefox, open the site information for this page and choose to remove or block its data, or clear browsing data for this site.
5. Removing your data
- One project: its card in the library has an options menu with Delete, which removes the project with all of its scenes and drawings.
- One scene: the scene menu in the storyboard deletes a scene and its frames, keeping at least one scene in the project.
- Everything: clear this site’s data in your browser, which also removes any downloaded model. Export anything you want to keep first.
