Terms of Use
What you can expect from the editor, and what stays yours.
Halfslap Story · Updated 19 October 2026
1. The service and who provides it
Halfslap Story is a browser-based storyboard and scriptwriting tool provided by DOYEP LTD, registered in England and Wales under company number 16868030.
Our registered office is Suite C The Quadrant, 99 Parkway Avenue, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, England, S9 4WG. Contact hello@doyep.co.uk.
These terms apply when you use the Story service at https://story.halfslap.com.
2. Using Story
The editor is made available free of charge, and no account or payment is required to use it.
You may use it for personal and commercial creative work. You must use it lawfully and must not interfere with its security, availability or other people’s access.
3. Your work belongs to you
We do not claim ownership of your original scripts, storyboards, drawings or other original material merely because you create them using Story.
You are responsible for having the rights or permission to use any third-party content you import, edit or distribute.
The application’s software, interface, brand assets and third-party components remain protected by the rights of their own owners. Using the service does not transfer those rights to you.
4. Local saving and your backups
Story stores your work in your browser. That is convenient and private, but it is not a guaranteed permanent backup. Your data can be lost if you clear site data, change browser or device, run out of storage, or something goes wrong.
You are responsible for keeping copies of work that matters. The app gives you the means: Export project in a project’s options writes the whole thing — drawings, scenes and script — to a file you keep, and the script editor exports Fountain and a screenplay PDF. The storyboard can export a scene as a PDF sheet.
5. AI assistance
Smart Convert reads a paragraph you have typed and lays it out as screenplay elements: scene heading, action, character cue, dialogue. It works only from your own words and the names and places already in your script, and it runs on your device.
It can still misread a sentence — attribute a line to the wrong speaker, or miss a cue. Where it genuinely cannot tell who is speaking, it leaves the character cue empty and offers the names already present in the scene rather than inventing one. Read what it produces before you keep it; you remain responsible for the final content.
6. Availability and changes
We maintain and update the service. We aim to keep it working, but we do not guarantee continuous availability, compatibility with every browser and device, or error-free operation. Features of the on-device AI in particular depend on what your browser and hardware support.
7. Liability and consumer rights
Nothing in these terms excludes or restricts liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, including liability for fraud and for death or personal injury caused by negligence, and nothing limits your statutory consumer rights.
Subject to those protections and to the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for losses caused by matters outside our reasonable control. No assurance is given that work stored only on your device can be recovered by us — we hold no copy of it.
8. Updates to these terms
We may amend these terms as the service changes. The current version and its date are published on this site.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, subject to any mandatory protections under the consumer law of the country where you live.
